Setting Up 1stCounsel Email On Your iPhone, iPad, & iPod

These instructions will set up your 1stCounsel email account set up on your Apple device using an IMAP connection. This allows you to access and manage your email directly on your phone, so you do not need to use the 1stCounsel.com web site.

  1. From the home screen on your device tap Settings, and then Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
  2. You'll then tap Add Account, Tap Other and then Add Mail Account.
  3. The "New Account" screen will appear and you'll then Enter in the following information in the fields provided, and then tap the Save button.
    • Name - Enter in your first and last name. This is the name that will appear in the From field of messages you send.
    • Address - Enter your entire email address (e.g., myname@1stcounsel.com)
    • Password - Enter the password for your email account.
    • Description - Enter a descriptive name for the account (e.g. Work Account). This description will only be visible to you.
  4. Select IMAP located at the top and then enter the Incoming Mail Server:
    • Host Name - Enter in the server name: imap.1stcounsel.com
    • User Name - Enter in your entire email address (e.g., myname@1stcounsel.com).
    • Password - Enter in the password for your email account.
  5. For the Outgoing Mail Server enter:
    • Host Name - Enter in the server name: smtp.1stcounsel.com
    • User Name - Enter in your entire email address (e.g., myname@1stcounsel.com).
    • Password - Enter in the password for your email account.
  6. The iPhone will attempt to establish an SSL connection to your IMAP and SMTP servers. This will fail, so you will see the prompt, "Do you want to try setting up the account without SSL?"
    • Tap No.
    • Tap Save.
    • When prompted, "This account may not be able to send or receive emails. Are you sure you want to save," tap Save.
  7. Tap the account you just added (identified by your email address)
  8. Scroll down and tap the SMTP button.
  9. Select the server you just added.
  10. Select OFF for Use SSL.
  11. Select Password for Authentication.
  12. Select 25 for Server Port.
  13. Tap the SMTP button to go back.
  14. Tap your email address to go back.
  15. Tap Advanced.
  16. Scroll down to Incoming Settings.
  17. Select OFF for Use SSL.
  18. Select Password for Authentication.
  19. Select 143 for Server Port.
  20. Tap your email address to go back.
  21. Tap Mail to go back.
  22. Tap the Home button.
  23. Tap the Mail App to check your configuration.
